The Comox Valley region is one of the fastest growing in British Columbia. Its growth is mostly due to a building boom in Courtenay, but other parts of the area are being suggested for development, including Cumberland and Union Bay. The area is best described as a postmodern society in which service jobs have exceeded 50% of the employment opportunities. The growth industries are tourism and construction, with the Canadian Forces in the form of CFB Comox having long provided significant economic stability since the decline of logging and mining in the region after the 1960s and fishing in the 1990s.

Campbell River has also seen rapid growth in the past 10 years and is a growing market for retirees. It is also the main supply point for northern Vancouver Island, Quadra Island and Cortes Island, having several large box stores with many more under construction. There are a few mines nearby - a lead zinc mine, coal mines and a large copper mine, which provide jobs to local residents.

Within these two regions there is something for everyone - whether it's skiing on Mount Washington, swimming in Comox Lake, shopping at the various farmers markets or dining in one of the fine restaurants. To find out more about each region, click on the "Comox Valley" or "Campbell River" links.
